Madhur wants a National Award
Madhur Bhandarkar's latest release 'Fashion' has not only opened to packed
houses but also to very high critical acclaim. The three time National Award
winning director is now definitely hoping to make a record of sorts by
winning a fourth, a rare feat for a mainstream Bollywood filmmaker.
When contacted, Madhur said, "I hope so. I am keeping my fingers crossed
because some of the people who have seen the movie tell me that 'Fashion' is
my best work to date. I believe in making a film with sincerity, to tell a
story as close to real life as possible, a film that should leave a mark
somewhere with audiences. My job ends when the film is made. I do not worry
about awards. I'm just leaving it to audiences to decide whether it works or
not."
Madhur is also amazed by the response the industry has given him, "It has
been really unbelievable! The response has been quite a revelation. My film
does not attempt to make a statement on the 'fashion' industry. The whole
journey has been very emotional too. It's a big leap in terms of the concept
and the budget for me because I've never made a mega budget movie. I've
always made a film costing between Rs 3 4 crore," said an excited
Madhur.
"I always say that I am an experimental filmmaker but my films do get
commercial acceptance. I'm very excited by the kind of feedback, messages and
calls I'm getting from the UK and the US," he concluded. |
