'Ravana' back in Sri Lanka Mani Ratnam is planning to shoot his 'Ravana' in Sri Lanka ever since he faced problems from the authorities for wanting
to shoot in the jungles of Kerala. A few years ago, Mani had shot his film with the LTTE as the backdrop in Sri Lanka.
The film starred Madhavan, Nandita Das and Simran. The shooting of Ravana was stopped by the forest authorities of
Kerala when he was shooting at the famous Malayattoor forest which is situated 30 km away from Kochi. Principal chief
forest conservator P.M. Manoharan had found many vehicles parked inside the forest violating the rules.
The reason they halted shooting was because the unit worked against the rules of the forest department. According to the
forest department, the shooting should be held between 8 am to 6 pm, to avoid disturbing the animals. Also, the
ecosystem should not be disturbed. The unit built small huts on location and hence, violated the rules. Mani's unit had said
they built these huts only to protect the expensive shooting equipment from the rains. Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai
Bachchan were supposed to join the crew on October 12 but as Amitabh Bachchan was hospitalised, they postponed
their dates indefinitely. Mani went ahead with shooting the portions of his film with other actors. |
