Rani says mo to Bhansali
Rani Mukherji has refused Sanjay Leela Bhansali's offer to star in his upcoming movie, 'Chenab Gandhi'. Rani and
Sanjay Leela have had a critically acclaimed film Black earlier, and the director was hoping that he would work with the
actress again. They also worked together in Saawariya later, though Rani only had a special appearance in the film. The
sensitive filmmaker was extremely hurt when Rani turned down the offer. Sources inform, "Chenab Gandhi, Bhansali's
production, is to be directed by his long time assistant Vibhu Puri. The film stars Harman Baweja opposite Vidya Balan,
and Amitabh Bachchan in a very important role. Bhansali approached Rani for a significant cameo in the film but when
she heard the complete script narration, she told him she would love to be a part of his film, but on one condition. Her
condition was that she would play the lead part. Bhansali had already committed that part to Vidya Balan and there was
no way he could back out."
"Rani was not interested in playing yet another Saawariya like cameo in his film. Rani believes that her cameo
appearances do not help the films to do better, hence the refusal," adds the source. However, industry sources have an
another tale to tell. "Rani knows well that Shah Rukh Khan and Bhansali are at loggerheads after Saawariya and Om
Shanti Om clashed at the box office last year. Bhansali could not accept the failure of his film and what enraged him
further were Shah Rukh's unnecessary comments, critical of his film. Rani, whose career is currently on the slide, would
wish to be a part of the Shah Rukh Khan camp. Knowing that Bhansali would back off with her conditions, the actress
politely refused the role," says a source. | |
